Whilst socialising with a fellow designer friend of mine last week, our conversation inevitably turned to current design trends. My friend (we’ll call him Jon) asked me the “Did ya ever notice that…..” Question. The subject in particular this time was how some logos have significant resemblances to other icon/emblems. The logo in question was the Pepsi logo, he was trying his best to prove how the Pepsi was a rip off of the simple Ying and Yang symbol by crudely sketching them both on a tissue paper. I bettered him by referring to an apt example I had come across in which famous logos were stripped back to their ‘potential inspiration’.
After researching this theory a little more, I came across a fascinating pictogram.
